I have never watched the Ang Lee-Eric Bana Hulk fiasco the whole way through. I've seen the beginning and the end, but thankfully Edward Norton has a blank slate to work from when dealing with this particular comic book fan. Frankly, though, I haven't been too much of a Hulk fan. Yes, I used to watch the Lou Ferrigno version on television (and I even saw him on a King of Queens rerun a week ago), but it wasn't until Greg Pak did his thing with the Hulk that I even paid attention.

Edward Norton, on the other hand, has had my attention for awhile. I've seen a good number of his films, and from Fight Club to Rounders to his brief appearances in The Italian Job, he's always done his fair share of action-packed adventure while remaining a "real" actor in the meantime. So, it remains to be seen how the latest emergence of the big green guy will play out on the silver screen; but it has to be worlds better than Bana's version, and yes, it has the "ethereal" Liv Tyler. For more on her, check out the Entertainment Weekly interview and see a different side than we saw in, say, Armageddon or Lord of the Rings.

So, what can we make of The Incredible Hulk? Born human but affected by a military experiment, lowly scientist Bruce Banner turns big, green, and angry every time he feels threatened, and becomes our Marvel original, the Incredible Hulk. I've often wondered how this was "heroic": you get really mad, and you suddenly have the powers necessary to house those who oppose or intimidate you. Where's the justice in that?

Maybe the powers are blessing and a curse (as Pak has illustrated, no pun intended). Maybe it's not about being that powerful, but it's about what you do with the power, when you (David Banner) know that you potentially become this ferocious and extremely dangerous creature who injures innocents along with those who are guilty. Maybe the danger is in the knowing, and not being able to prevent what happens later.

That's where the power of the Hulk and my journey as a Christian collide. I'm constantly committing the wrong or sin that I don't want to do but feel sometimes powerless to change or stop that behavior. Like addiction, or temptation, that "ability" comes out at all the wrong moments and I hurt those close to me, and my witness as a follower of Christ. I don't have the powers or strength of the Hulk, but the devastation left behind is just as real, just as damaging.

Will we learn to harness the inner-Hulk in all of us, or will we continue to hurt those we love and mourn the consequences later?
