This means the Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking for ways to weaken Google&#8217;s dominance and create a fairer playing field for competitors \u200b[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtarget.com\/whatis\/feature\/Google-antitrust-case-explained-Whats-next\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>So I wondered<\/strong> what would happen and did some online research and found some <strong>potential outcomes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Restrictions on default placement:<\/strong> The DOJ might stop Google from paying phone and browser makers to have Google Search as the default option [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.platformer.news\/google-antitrust-trial-search-remedies-breakup-chrome-android\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4<\/a>]. This could allow users to choose their preferred search engine more easily.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Sharing search data:<\/strong> Google might be required to share some anonymous search information with rival search engines \u200b\u200b[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.platformer.news\/google-antitrust-trial-search-remedies-breakup-chrome-android\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4<\/a>]. This data helps search engines improve their results over time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These changes could make it easier for other search engines to compete with Google, potentially giving users more options and potentially lowering search advertising costs \u200b\u200b[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lanierlawfirm.com\/google-antitrust-lawsuits-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">However, a complete breakup of Google seems unlikely at this point \u200b\u200b[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.platformer.news\/google-antitrust-trial-search-remedies-breakup-chrome-android\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4<\/a>].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Overall, the DOJ lawsuit will likely make things more challenging for Google, but it probably won&#8217;t dismantle the company entirely.
