There was a time when a movie with Disney attached to its name was a must-see. After years of some controversy, that is no longer true, but even that does not mean Disney can’t make or produce an enjoyable film.
Freakier Friday is a 2025 American fantasy comedy film directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss. Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, it is a sequel to Freaky Friday (2003), based on Mary Rodgers’s 1972 novel, and the seventh installment in the franchise overall. Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Mark Harmon, among others star in the film. It features Anna Coleman (Lohan) and Tess Coleman (Curtis) trying to regain their bodies after respectively switching with the former’s daughter, Harper (Butters), and soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily Reyes (Hammons), before Anna’s wedding to Lily’s father, Eric (Jacinto). Involved in this is a good deal of humor, and Lohan, as the daughter, and Curtis, as her mom, are actually quite enjoyable and terrific as they navigate through the turmoil.

While the focus of Freakier Friday centers around the women, it is suitable for family viewing, including husbands. Themes such as appreciation for one another and honesty with others prevail throughout the film. There are consequences for actions and lessons to be learned about respecting and appreciating others, as well as gaining a deeper understanding of oneself.

While I did not love Freakier Friday, I enjoyed it and at times found myself laughing out loud. I admittedly enjoyed Lindsay Lohan’s performance much more than I expected. She is a good actress, and hopefully, in real life, her troubled past seems to thankfully be behind her.

For me, on a scale of 1-10, while not a great movie, it would make a pretty enjoyable matinee, so I give it a slightly better-than-average score of 6.
